Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 May 2026 · Applies to the Matome browser extension (v0a)

Matome is built local-first. Your notes live in your own browser. The extension has no server, no account system, and makes no requests to Pinterest on your behalf.

What Matome stores

When you save a Pin, Matome stores the following locally in your browser:

Where it is stored

All of the above is kept in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local and IndexedDB) on your device. Nothing is uploaded. There is no Matome server and no cloud sync in this version.

What Matome does NOT do

How Matome reads the page

Matome runs only on pinterest.com, inside your own browser session, on pages you have loaded yourself. When you click Pinterest's Save button, Matome reads the already-rendered page to capture the URLs listed above — the same basis used by ad blockers, dark-mode tools, and password managers. It never automates requests to Pinterest's servers.

Your control

Because the data lives in your browser, you can remove it at any time by clearing the extension's data or uninstalling it. Uninstalling Matome deletes everything it stored.

Permissions

Matome requests only the browser permissions it needs to detect saves on Pinterest, store notes locally, and open its review tab. It does not use these permissions to collect data beyond what is described above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change with it.
